Jeanne Beker: Canadian Fashion Icon

One of Canada's most influential fashionistas, Jeanne Beker will be joining us at Fashion Has No Borders on March 20, 2010. Her extensive career in the fashion industry includes not only her role as host of Fashion Television, Jeanne has also been a fashion editor, radio producer, clothing designer, columnist, and judge on Canada's Next Top Model.

Jeanne has also been recognized by numerous organizations for her ongoing community involvement and influence. Her long list of accolades includes the Vantage Women of Originality Award by the Fashion Group International and a Variety Club Diamond Award.

PLUS, as if that wasn't enough, Jeanne has been lending her talent to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics by talking Olympic fashion. The figure skaters in particular have been causing quite a stir in Jeanne, some getting praise for being "Ultra chic," other for being "Ludicrous get-ups looked more suitable for the circus than a sophisticated global competition."

The Every Woman Competition at Crossiron Mills

Saturday, February 21st we found ourselves at Crossiron Mills for Calgary's first ever Every Woman Competition. We found 30 women who exemplified beauty, style, grace and achievement and got to know each of them a bit better.

With the helps of guest judges, Kathe Lemon (Editor, Avenue Magazine), Yvonne Jefferey (Life Editor, Calgary Herald), Judy Gabriel (CityTV), Alykhan Velji (My Rona Home) and Mike Chammoury (Edges Salon) we narrowed our search down for the Every Woman to 10 finalists. One of these lucky women will win a one year contract with the Ben Barry Agency and a trip for two to a Breezes resort (either Panama or Jamaica), a designer outfit from Belissima and A Lady's First Shopping Package from the Delta Bow.

Ben Barry: Changing the Face of Fashion

Ben Barry, founder of the world's first modeling agency representing models of all ages, sizes, backgrounds and abilities will be coming to Fashion Has No Borders on March 20, 2010.

His goal? To create an inclusive and empowering fashion industry by helping brands authentically represent their consumers.

At the age of 14, Ben's first model was a friend who was told she was "too big" to be a model. He sent her pictures to an editor who called him back, hired his friend and his agency was born. Fast-forward to 2010 and Ben is scouting for fashion beauty brands including Sears, Macy's and the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty.

Getting as much attention as his models, Ben has been featured on Oprah, CNN, MTV, Fashion Television and his work has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Globe and Mail, and Glamour (to name a few).
